Great Bridge Battlefield & Waterways History Foundation - Graphic Header

The Great Bridge Battlefield and Waterways History Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and presentation of the historical significance of the Battle of Great Bridge, the Albemarle & Chesapeake Canal and the Dismal Swamp Canal.

The primary objective of the Foundation is to establish an information center in which educational displays and artifacts, electronic media and trained staff will tell the story of the battle and the canals. The Foundation will also foster and promote the information center as a basis to form a regional history trail that will develop into a valuable educational and economic asset for the communities involved.

Please explore our site to learn more about the past history of the battlefield and canals, present objectives of the Foundation, the future plans for the information center, and to learn how you can join us.

Please find the link below to an educational pamphlet on the Battle of Great Bridge, co-authored by the late Mrs. Elizabeth Hanbury and Mr. Jim Hodges. Even with her passing, Elizabeth will continue to inspire and teach students of all ages. We continue to be blessed by her love and support of our organization.
